OUR MISSION

Our mission is to inspire our community to eat real food that is crafted from the diversity and abundance of nature. Food presents an unparalleled opportunity to rebuild connections between individuals, farmers and nature. By cultivating a deeper appreciation for where our food comes from and how it's made, we can foster a stronger bond with the natural world and develop a greater sense of mindfulness in our everyday interactions with food.

By doing this we believe we can help people and the planet alike become healthier.

REBUILDING CONNECTIONS

Our vision of the future is one where connections are realized and rebuilt between citizens and nature; where humans and nature coexist in harmony and collective vitality. This is why for Grove and Meadow, every product is more than a delicious offering; it's a commitment - a vow to nurture not just individual health, but the health of our community and the wider environment. The choices we make, from sourcing raw materials to the creation of our final products, are guided by an ethos of sustainability, ethics and respect for the earth.

OUR CIRCULARITY

We are driven by a desire to transform the canvas of Kenya’s food landscape which is why our social and environmental activities stretch beyond our healthy product range. The profitability of our sister business, brown's food co, enables us to reinvest in innovation and new projects that aim to further impact community health, care for our employees, support the farming community and regenerate soils. We intentionally choose to sell our products within Kenya so that the nutritional benefits stay within the country.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

YOUR HEALTH IS OUR PRIORITY

We believe slow food is good food. It enhances nutritional benefits AND removes the need for preservatives, modifed starches or artificial coloring. Why add non-food ingredients when we can take advantage of the healthy alternatives with some creativity and effort?

Through the traditional processing techniques of fermentation, soaking, sprouting and stone-ground milling the bioavailability of nutrients increases. This makes digestion easier meaning you absorb greater nutritional value than would have otherwise been possible!

Have you felt a difference when regularly consuming products that are alive!?

WE USE FRESH LOCAL INGREDIENTS

We believe food should be made fresh. This is important for ensuring maximum nutritional value AND the shorter the sourcing distance the fresher the product.

In fact our products come from the farm to you in less than 500 miles! Beyond freshness, this also means a low carbon footprint with less transport or the need for refridgeration. Ingredients that are cultivated locally, in attunement with the local growing conditions also typically consume less of nature's finite resources.

Have you ever thought about the 'true-cost' of food?

WE CARE ABOUT OUR PRODUCERS

We believe in having full tracebility of our value chain. Why? So that we can ensure that farmers are paid a fair wage and crops are grown to the highest quality. We choose to work with small farms because it means less large agribusiness nonsense. No yield enhancers, no crazy fertilisers, no giant corporations. Just farmers.

We have carefully built relationships with these farmers across East Africa and are actively supporting them to grow a more diverse cropping system. This helps to regenerate soils, provide resilience to climatic shocks and a diversified income source.

Have you noticed how different it feels to look at a farm grown in monoculture versus polyculture?

WE USE NATURAL SWEETNESS AND JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF IT

We believe in the power of natural ingredients' flavour. We don't need to add any hidden sugars, sweeteners or “natural flavourings’ for our products to taste great. Instead we use a touch of raw cane sugar, jaggery or honey in some of our range.

We do this because we see food as medicine. Our products are crafted to support health today and into the long term and we know the damage that hidden sugars cause so we simply say no!

Have you looked at processed foods' packaging to see the quantities of hidden sugars?
